Zwei kleine Singvögel

Sonata

for flute and piano (1982; rev. 1995)

Composed for Catherine Thompson. The Sonata is bitonal in E major and C minor and marked the departure from the composer’s earlier atonal style to his trademark neo-Romantic tonal language. The Sonata is two movements and around 18 minutes in length.

Lyric Fantasy

Dedicated to Patti Adams. Adams was piccoloist of the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra and premiered this single-movement work at the National Flute Association Convention in 2007.
Approximate duration = 10-11 minutes.

The Blue Flower

for solo flute (2015)

Dedicated to Misty Theisen, The Blue Flower is a single movement inspired by digital artwork done by the composer himself.
Approximate duration = 5 minutes.

Trio

for flute, alto saxophone, and piano (2015)

Dedicated to Misty Theisen, Marc Ballard, (Duo Fujin) and Leslie Downs. The Trio is substantial in length and emotional impact with four movements lasting a little over 20 minutes.
